The Tower Tours (by Big Bus) Muir Woods component of your tour package runs daily and can be taken before or after Alcatraz. Choose a date for Muir Woods that is different than the Alcatraz date.
Muir Woods takes roughly 3.5 hours R/T, with up to 1.5 hours in Muir Woods National Monument, and the ability to leave the tour in Sausalito (requiring a separate purchase for ferry or taxi/Uber/Lyft back to SF.

FAQ
GENERAL:
- Upon purchase, you will receive an email voucher showing your purchase final confirmation for the Muir Woods portion of your package will come within 24 hours. Alcatraz is confirmed at purchase, but a full confirmation with Big Bus / Tower Tours is needed. In very rare cases, the tour may be unavailable. If so, we will call and/or email you to suggest options.
- For Muir Woods, your voucher can be shown on your phone at Big Bus / Tower Tours check in
- Be prepared for changing weather; Alcatraz can be chilly – in either sun or fog;
- Alcatraz and the Muir Woods Tours must be taken on different days.
- Children ages 3 and 4 must pay for a seat to Muir Woods. Children age 2 and under must sit on parent's lap. No car seats can be accommodated.
FOR ALCATRAZ:
- Amigos Tours will send Alcatraz City Cruises your name and ticket quantity in advance
- Your tickets will be waiting at Pier 33 under your name
- Bring your receipt/voucher to Pier 33, Alcatraz Landing (printed or on your phone)
- All guests over age 18 are required to provide a government-issued photo ID at Pier 33
- Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early (you can arrive up to 120 minutes early, but Pier 33 has few attractions)
- Please be on time
- Alcatraz Tour departure times and dates cannot be changed
- If you arrive late Alcatraz City Cruises is not required to assist you
- The Alcatraz tour usually lasts 3 hours
- Ferries return from the island every 60 minutes (no return ticket needed)
- There are no refunds for any unused tours
- Alcatraz portion is free for kids under age 5

The Ferry ride from Pier 33 takes 10-15 minutes to get to Alcatraz.
This is the infamous prison – where you can even go inside cells and experience the cold and stark surroundings firsthand. Alcatraz served as a federal penitentiary from 1933 to 1963, where notorious criminals like Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly were held. The award-winning 45-minute cell house audio headset tour will captivate you with escape attempts, riots, bizarre characters, and much more. Displays include prison life, guard controls, and how three men made their famous “Escape From Alcatraz.”

Let Big Bus-Tower Tours take you to the ever popular and magically beautiful grove of 200 foot tall old growth Coast Redwoods.
The tour allows for up to 1.5 hours in park, with admission fee included. Muir Woods now requires reservations, and parking has become restricted. Tower Tours makes it easy.
After visiting Muir Woods. the tour heads to Sausalito, This old bayside fishing village is now among the nicest little towns in America. Victorian and modern buildings intermix, panoramic views abound, and great restaurants and shops dot the waterfront. You can stay with the tour or hop off and visit Sausalito on your own. If your time allows, we recommend that you plan for this visit, although it will require a separate purchase for ferry back to SF (arriving at Fisherman's Wharf or the Ferry Building downtown).

Big Bus-Tower Tours DOES NOT offer individual hotel shuttles. Individual hotel pickups ended in July 2022.
However, you can meet for tours at 2 locations:
Union Square - with confirmation by contacting Big Bus, (meeting just outside the Westin St. Francis Hotel at 427 Post Street close to Powell Street). Wait on the Post Street Side.
Fisherman's Wharf - 99 Jefferson Street. Meet here (the Big Bus-Tower Tours office) 20 minutes before your tour departure time. All vehicles seat 25+ persons. Seat belts are not required, but child car seats cannot be accommodated.
